Site
This site has been around for about 6 years now and it is a hobby as much as
playing is.
I gather together bits of information that interest me and put them up here to share.
I play mainly traditional music in and around Kent - England although I do enjoy some
old-time, swing and ragtime tunes. I like English tunes particularly but I also enjoy
Irish music sessions. So a bit eclectic then.
Me
I first picked up a mandolin in 1976, given (or sold) to me by Paul
Davenport, squire of Green Oak Morris with whom I danced at the time. Put it down again in
about 1983 (married, kids) and picked it up again in 1997 and rediscovered the joys of
playing. I used to play entirely by ear, but later learnt the dots. I got back into
playing with a workshop / band called Fretless and Fancy Free in Luton.
Since coming down to Kent in 1998, I have discovered more musicians and more tunes than I
ever thought existed.
I was squire of Morris side for a while (Cheswold Morris in Doncaster 1977 - 1979) and
still enjoy the Morris tunes.
Totally amateur - I have a day job in Information Systems Management.
